Norway Is Investigating Facebook’s Facial Recognition Feature
Categories: News

Mark Zuckerberg’s company is under investigation in Norway. Authorities in this country (the Norwegian Data Protection Authority) are analyzing Facebook’s facial recognition software as they see it as a threat to their citizen’s security.

According to this organization, users could be tracked by this social network, which is a serious violation of privacy under Norwegian law.

Bjørn Erik Thon, Norway’s data- protection commissioner, said to Bloomberg that facial recognition (active since 2011)  ““is a very powerful tool Facebook has and it’s not yet clear how it all really works,”

The tool suggests the names of the people recognized on the picture so users can tag them more easily. Facebook believes this feature is compatible with European Union’s legislation and that the users know the tool and how to disable it.
